Red Joy

This photo is from January 2001 and my son was having a birthday party that involved painting.  I was taking all sorts of standard birthday party shots when I noticed all the reds around my son.  The problem was that all the kids were looking down at what they were painting so I pointed out to my son that he had paint on his hands to get him to look up.  He raised his hand to inspect it and was thrilled…and I was too.  The reds, the hand, and the expression on his face all came together and made this one of those special moments in life and, thankfully, I was able to capture it.

This is clearly one of the top five favorite photos I’ve ever taken.  I loved that moment and I love my son so very much.
